SEMINAR ON THE “EMERGING ROLE OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE COUNTRY”

A seminar on the Emerging Role of Social Entrepreneurship organized by the Center for Social Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Planning, Development & Reform on 12th October, 2017 in Pakistan Planning & Management Institute (PPMI), Islamabad. The Chief Guest of the Seminar was Mr. Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, Secretary, Ministry of Planning, Development & Reform. At the occasion, the speeches on the importance of emerging role of Social Entrepreneurship in reducing the miseries of the people by innovative business plan ideas were made by the Ms. Asma Hyder, Member Social Sector & Devolution, Planning Commission, Mr. Nisar Ahmed, Deputy Chief (Social Welfare Section)/ Project Director of the Center for Social Entrepreneurship and Mr. Jawad A.K Tareen, Bussiness Development Manager of the Center.

Mr. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi, Secretary M/o PD&R shared with the participants that the Social Enterprise landscape in Pakistan, promotion of Innovative business Ideas/plan for addressing unemployment in youth and role of Social Entrepreneurship in Building Civic Capacity will help and lead to Poverty Reduction, Employment Generation & Youth involvement in addressing the social issues of the society through innovative business plan ideas and competitions. He further stressed upon linkages and networking among the stakeholders working in social welfare sector for promotion of social enterprises in the country. The Center established by the Planning Commission is landmark initiatives of Ministry of Planning, Development & Reforms which will lead towards the policy and planning in area of Social Entrepreneurship.

The Ministry of PD&R has taken leading role by establishing the centre which will boost social enterprises in the country for contributing in national planning in area of social sector, i.e Education, Health, Social Welfare, Special Education, Gender and Women Empowerment, Food Security, Social Protection, Water & Sanitation, etc. The centre will act as Special Purpose Vehicle to achieve the specific objectives with support of the stakeholders including Academia, Professional, Planners, National & International Organizations.

The centre will take lead in promotion of innovation to find solution to social issues, finding business solution of problems, business plan competitions, poverty reduction, availability of trained work force, data / reports on social issues, and advisory body to the planning machinery. To enhance the social economy, the Centre is aimed at enhancing people’s business acumen for solving their social problems through local community based solutions.
