Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar has said that social and creative enterprises can help achieve economic agenda and sustainable development goals
The Minister was talking to a delegation of British Council, Sustainable Development Policy Institute and Centre for Social Entrepreneurship which called on him at Islamabad on Thursday. Director British Council, Mr. James Thompson, Member Infrastructure Malik Ahmed Dr Vaqar Ahmed, Joint Executive Director, SDPI, Mr. Saram Bokhari, Project Director CSE and senior officials of the Ministry were also present in the meeting.
The Federal Minister stated that supporting social enterprises can help contribute to national economy and there is a need to create an enabling environment for this purpose. However, he emphasized that there is a need to define social and creative enterprises keeping in view the domestic requirement and how could they contribute toward socio-economic development. He called for identifying key areas and sectors for creative and social enterprises to achieve policy objectives. The Minister also underlined to explore possibility of international funding to gain required capital for supporting social enterprises.
The Minister appreciated the work done by Centre for Social Entrepreneurship for promoting social enterprises. On the occasion, he was also given a presentation by the visiting delegation.
