Member Infrastructure and Regional Connectivity Planning Development & Special Initiatives

Dr. Waqas Anwar is Member Infrastructure and Regional Connectivity at Planning Commission of Pakistan. He is responsible for the preparation of Annual and Five Years National Plans related to the infrastructure sectors including Transport and Communication (roads, rails, ports), Water Resource (irrigation and dams), Water Supply and Sanitation and Housing. He is also deeply involved in preparation, appraisal / evaluation, approval, implementation and completion stages of national projects.

The officer joined the Planning Commission in September 2022 with an outstanding professional career both in military and civil services. He has worked on various senior management positions. Apart from implementing numerous infrastructure development projects, he has planned and implemented national projects under Belt and Road Initiative in extreme hostile environments of human induced disaster regions of Sub-continent and Western Africa under United Nations. He has also been working as a senior project manager of the Western Route of Chine Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Worth mentioning projects are N-85 (Nag – Basima – Panjgur – Hoshab), M-8 (Ratedero – Khuzdar and Turbat Hoshab), M-14 (DI Khan – Hakla). He also worked in other sectors like high rise building infrastructure, water supply and sanitation, electric networks. He has also vast experience of implementing consultancy projects like town / master planning, design and resident consultancy.

The officer is qualified research scholar with two PhD degrees. One in Industrial Engineering from Pakistan and other in Civil Engineering from UK. In recognition of meritorious services to the country, he has been awarded two military awards by the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army.
