A meeting of the National Committee constituted to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Prof Ahsan Iqbal. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar also attended the meeting.
The meeting held detailed deliberations on the proposed events for the 150th birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal, as well as the celebrations marking the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in 2026. Addressing the meeting, Prof Ahsan Iqbal announced that the year 2026 would be declared the “Year of Quaid-e-Azam,” and that Quaid-e-Azam’s 150th birth anniversary would be celebrated at the national level in a befitting manner.
He said that a sub-committee was being constituted to finalise the events, which would present its recommendations within five days. The Planning Minister emphasised that a coordinated strategy should be devised to make the celebrations meaningful and memorable.
Prof Ahsan Iqbal said that Quaid-e-Azam’s vision provides complete guidance for Pakistan, and that his principles of Unity, Faith and Discipline would be highlighted in a comprehensive manner. He added that a high-quality drama series would also be produced on Quaid-e-Azam’s life, his struggle for independence and his historic role in the creation of Pakistan.
The Planning Minister noted that Quaid-e-Azam’s thoughts remain a guiding light for present-day Pakistan, and that the Uraan Pakistan vision is also rooted in Quaid-e-Azam’s ideals. He stressed that the programmes should not be merely ceremonial in nature, but should carry strong intellectual and educational impact so that the younger generation can draw inspiration and guidance from them.
