Iqbal urges students to prepare one packet of food for flood-affected mother, children

Dated : 21 September 2022

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday urged the students to become community mobilizers while preparing one packet of food for children and mothers in flood-affected areas and submit it to their respective universities.

The Minister made this appeal, while speaking at the conference on International Day of Peace, organized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Chairman HEC, Executive Director and a large number of students also attended the conference. “Every university student should mobilize himself and prepare one packet of food for the mother and children in flood-affected areas, '' said the minister, while reiterating that the government is making an all-out effort for the flood-affected people.

The minister said that he had asked the HEC Chairman to set the target of two million students in universities for collection of one packet of food and their specification will be shared soon. These two million food packets will be distributed among the flood-affected people especially among mother and children in the next ten days through National Disaster Management Authority NDMA, he added.

Professor Iqbal further said that one-third of the country has been submerged by the floods and the incumbent government is taking out all effort for the rehabilitation of the flood-affected areas and urged the Vice Chancellors to engage student activists for helping the flood-affected people.

The Minister said that prejudice is the biggest enemy of peace and youth of the country should take practical steps to bring peace and harmony among all. Everyone has a right of a different opinion but it should not be based on hatred, he added. Peace and development go hand in hand, as no society has developed with chaos, he added while urging the students to become ambassadors of peace and to move forward with dialogue.
